The Five Heart Beats Workshop Series

An offshoot of our Atlas Programs, the 5 Heart Beats is a workshop series focusing on five elements that make up the creative process for oral storytelling. Every Monday, starting November 14th through December 12th, from 5-7 p.m. at ART 180's Atlas Gallery, participants will dive into a series of diverse workshops led by a handful of Richmond's most talented artists. The goal is to provide five approaches; poetry, lyricism, improvisation, stand-up comedy, and music production as techniques and practices to harness the participant's YOUnique voice and story. This series is open to all Richmond high school students and are offered at no-cost.

Our Atlas gallery is located at 114 W. Marshall Street, on the corner of Brook Road and Marshall Street.

We have been operating for 5 years and have been the host to hundreds of emcees throughout that time. Our goal is to preserve and enhance the artistry of technical rhyme and performance. The workshop, God Tier: An Exploration In High-Level Lyricism will be held in that same spirit. We will be analyzing and discussing the technical devices used in Hip-hop lyricism, rhyme schemes, structure, wordplay, etc., and how these devices are used to convey emotion and technique within verse and songwriting concepts.
