Mickael Broth, also known as The NightOwl, is a Richmond-based artist, muralist, sculptor, and author. His mural work can be seen at hundreds of locations across the country.
He is most well known locally for his work in Mellow Mushroom Carytown, “the witch” mural at the southern end of the Mayo Bridge, and his dancing Bernie Sanders mural in Scott’s Addition.
In addition to his own mural work, Mickael serves on the board of the RVA Street Art Festival and will be publishing a book called Murals of Richmond through Chop Suey Bookshop in the fall. Mickael’s first major sculptural commission will be an 18’ metal piece installed at the Hull Street Library later this year.
Mickael is heavily inspired by his wife, Brionna Nomi’s involvement in educational activism and his own experiences with incarceration, having served ten months in jail for graffiti over a decade ago.
Mickael and Brionna served as program leaders on the first Performing Statistics project after having worked on numerous ART 180 programs prior to that opportunity.
